ISLAMABAD: The government lowered petrol and diesel prices this Friday for the week starting June 13. This change offers a small amount of relief to the public.

Petrol prices have dropped by Rs4 per litre, while diesel prices have decreased by Rs2 per litre.

The Ministry of Energy announced that petrol prices have dropped by Rs4, moving from Rs377.78 to Rs373.78 per litre.

Diesel prices have also decreased by Rs2, going from Rs380.78 down to Rs378.78 per litre. These new prices will start on June 13.

Last week, the government lowered petrol prices by Rs4 per litre but kept diesel prices the same.

Diesel is mainly used for farming and large transport vehicles, while petrol is mostly used for cars and motorcycles. Because local gas is now banned in Punjab, more people are using petrol.

Kerosene is mostly used in far-away areas, especially in the north where cooking gas is unavailable.

The Pakistan Army uses a lot of kerosene, while industries use light diesel. Recently, smuggled oil from Iran has increased, which is hurting the sales of petrol and diesel from local refineries.

Experts say it is difficult to stop the rising amount of smuggled oil from Iran.

Even though the government has tried to help, smuggling continues. This makes it hard to improve local refineries and affects the entire oil supply.
