Actor Hajra Yamin discussed how the line between actors and social media influencers is disappearing. She warned that this confusion causes actors to face the same intense public criticism that influencers often get.
“People should remember that actors and influencers are different. We cannot do their job,” Yamin said. However, she noted that the difference is fading because making money through Instagram ads has become a huge business. She added that while many actors stay true to themselves, some do act like influencers, and many influencers are now trying to become actors.
Yamin warned that people online often share too much and speak without taking responsibility for what they say. She believes staying safe online requires effort from everyone: viewers must be careful about what they consume, and creators must be careful about what they post.
The actor described the current internet environment as unpredictable and angry. She noted that social media often feels like a mob, pointing out that even actors who stay silent about politics are attacked for not sharing their opinions.
Also known for her focus on fitness, the ‘Pinky Memsaab’ star said her view on working out changed completely because of her trainer. She explained, ‘My trainer changed my mindset. He told me not to push myself too hard just to build a certain body.’
Rather than dieting strictly, she now chooses healthy habits, like drinking a nutritious juice made of beetroot, ginger, turmeric, and carrots. To recover from long work days, she follows a strict routine of finishing meals by 7:00 pm and going to bed by 11:00 pm.
Looking back at her start in the industry, Yamin spoke warmly about her hard but important time in theatre. There, she became close friends with actor Ahmed Ali Butt, who always cared for her after tiring rehearsals. This friendship gave her great emotional support during her hardest moments. “When my father passed away, he was one of the first people to reach out and comfort me,” she said, thanking Butt for always being there for her during her grief.
Regarding her work, Yamin said she is very careful about the projects she joins. She prefers quality over quantity to protect her reputation. When choosing a script, she looks for deep characters and a strong director’s vision. She respects directors and believes that feedback helps her improve.
To Yamin, a director’s correction is like a lesson from a great teacher. She believes actors should never let their egos get in the way of receiving necessary guidance.
She also liked how the industry is now using large casts, which she believes gives every actor an equal chance. Remembering her work with director Nadeem Baig on Manto, she said, ‘He treats every character as equally important. To him, every character is a hero and a real person.’
