ISLAMABAD:
Adiala jail authorities once again stopped PTI leaders from meeting party founder Imran Khan on Thursday. Meanwhile, the government defended the medical care given to the imprisoned couple.
Responding to a concern raised by PTI’s leader in the Senate, Ali Zafar, the Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah Khan told the Senate that the PTI founder and his wife, Bushra Bibi, are in jail under court orders. He said that their custody and everything related to it are being handled according to what the court ordered and jail rules.
He stated that Bushra Bibi and the PTI founder were found guilty by courts and are currently in jail.
He mentioned that the issue of prison conditions had already been addressed by higher courts, like the Islamabad High Court and the Supreme Court.
Sanaullah mentioned that senior lawyer Salman Safdar was chosen as a court helper. Safdar went to the jail and then shared a report about the PTI founder’s living conditions and the resources he has.
He stated that Salman Safdar’s report agreed with the jail superintendent’s report about the facilities and living conditions in jail.
The advisor stated that Bushra Bibi was also in jail under court orders. They added that if she had any health problems, the jail and other related organizations were responsible for her medical care.
He stated that she was taken to the hospital and given medical care whenever needed, and that her health wasn’t neglected.
Sanaullah stated that if the opposition needed more help or changes related to their time in jail during the case, they should ask the court, which can make those decisions.
He suggested Senator Ali Zafar could also go to court about it and check all the reports and details about how the person is being held.
At the same time, PTI leaders, such as Khurram Virk, Naseem Ali Shah, and others, went to Adiala jail. However, they were not permitted to see Imran Khan because visiting hours were over.
Zahir told reporters that Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi, has announced plans for the final stage of protests against the PTI founder’s imprisonment.
He said the movement would proceed once they got instructions from the party founder, and that the fight wasn’t over yet.
“Problems are being made on purpose, which is really harming the courts. That’s why the court’s orders to set up a meeting with Imran Khan aren’t being followed,” Zahir said.
At the same time, PTI said they were very worried and angry about reports that Bushra Bibi was suddenly and secretly taken to a hospital in the middle of the night and then brought back to jail. Her family, lawyers, and party were not told about this.
PTI’s Sheikh Waqas Akram said in a statement that it’s very unfortunate that a female prisoner, who is also the wife of an ex-prime minister, is not getting basic human and medical rights, even though her health is getting worse every day.
