LAHORE:
Punjab hospitals are getting ready for a likely surge in patients with stomach problems, high blood pressure, food poisoning, and heart issues, all because people eat too much meat during Eidul Azha.

Doctors say that every year after Eid, the capital city sees the same health problem: families eat a lot of beef and mutton all day, without eating healthy or cooking it safely.

They said hospitals were busy preparing for patients who overeat during Eid.

During holidays, people have parties to enjoy eating meat.

Hospitals say their emergency rooms often see patients with bad heartburn, stomach pain, throwing up, dehydration, gallbladder issues, and high blood pressure. These problems are caused by people overeating too much during Eid celebrations.

Health experts say the issue isn’t meat itself, but how unhealthily we eat it. Big breakfasts with fried liver, late-night barbecues, greasy curries, and eating meat too often can really stress your stomach.

Dr. Amjad Mahmood, a senior doctor, stated that hospitals in Lahore see more stomach and heart problems each year during the Eid holiday.

“People quickly switch from normal eating to eating only meat for three days. Many eat too much BBQ, karahi, pulao, fried liver, and sugary drinks all at once. This really stresses the stomach and can be risky for people with heart problems, diabetes, and older adults,” he said.

Doctors say that during past Eid holidays, many people went to the emergency room with chest pain, which was actually bad heartburn from eating too much. Others got food poisoning from meat that wasn’t stored correctly and was left in the heat for too long. Lahore doctors advise people with high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, kidney problems, liver issues, ulcers, or cholesterol to be very careful. They especially warn these patients against eating too much oily barbecue, brain curry, kidney dishes, and fatty meat.

Nutrition expert Dr. Sara Khalid cautioned that overeating during Eid is quietly harming people’s health.

Every year, people seem to think Eid is a time to eat as much as they want. But your stomach can’t handle lots of heavy foods with protein and fat all the time without problems. Eating too much often leads to bloating, constipation, bad heartburn, messed up blood sugar, and sometimes even serious heart issues.

She also said that many people don’t drink enough water while eating salty and spicy meat all day, which can lead to dehydration and kidney problems in Lahore’s hot weather.
