ISLAMABAD:
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the head of JUI-F, said on Monday that two provinces, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Balochistan, have become centers for insecurity and terrorism.
“Will we keep celebrating the ‘Victory Event’ while people are dying?” he asked the National Assembly. The ‘Victory Event’ refers to the four-day clash between India and Pakistan that began on May 6 after India attacked some locations inside Pakistan.
Fazl said he was speaking amidst violence, regretting that important talks about the country weren’t being shared with the people.
“We support the Constitution and are being penalized for it,” he stated, mentioning that many funerals took place in Bajaur following one event.
He criticized long security operations, saying they didn’t work and were like a disease getting worse despite treatment. He also questioned the economy, asking why Pakistan has the highest gas prices even though global prices are lower.
Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai gave a strong speech, telling the government they have one week to provide medical care and allow meetings for imprisoned PTI leader Imran Khan.
He said the February 8, 2024 election was rigged. He claimed the party that won the people’s vote was made smaller.”Can you buy and sell to create a parliament?” he questioned. He added that the opposition tried to manage the assembly even though they thought it wasn’t valid. Achakzai warned that if Imran Khan couldn’t meet with people freely, the opposition would stop the parliament from working.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Mahmood Khan Achakzai met at Parliament to talk about politics, how things are going in Parliament, and how opposition parties can work together.
The meeting happened as opposition groups announced plans to protest rising inflation and fuel costs.
Before, the National Assembly all agreed to honor the armed forces for how they reacted to India’s actions last May.
The law minister proposed a resolution that commended the professionalism and readiness shown during the conflict and asserted that the nation is united in protecting its sovereignty.
At the same time, the Senate session, led by Yousaf Raza Gilani, had a strong discussion about rising prices, fuel costs, and tax rules.
PTI Senator Ali Zafar stated that high fuel prices are due to government actions and high taxes. He pointed out that over Rs117 per liter is collected in taxes on petrol. He claimed that even though global prices are falling, the government isn’t lowering prices for the public.
