The documents also indicated a large increase in funding for the development of local communities impacted by the projects.

Construction work on the Mohmand and Dasu dams in Pakistan as project costs rise by 1.6 trillion rupees beyond original estimates.
Pakistan’s Mohmand and Dasu dam projects are now expected to cost an additional 1.6 trillion rupees compared to their initial budgets.

ISLAMABAD:
The cost to build the Mohmand Dam and Dasu Hydropower Project has risen by a total of Rs1.607 trillion. This means the total estimated cost for these two large hydropower projects has jumped from about Rs800 billion to almost Rs2.4 trillion.

The Water Resources Ministry told the National Assembly that the Mohmand Dam project’s cost has increased. It was initially estimated at Rs309.558 billion, but now it’s Rs665.743 billion, a rise of Rs356.18 billion.

The ministry says the project’s initial cost estimate was approved with the original contract. Now, a revised plan with an updated cost of 665.743 billion rupees is awaiting approval from the Planning Ministry.

The ministry announced that the expected cost of the Dasu Hydropower Project has risen from Rs486.093 billion, which was approved in 2014, to Rs1.737 trillion, a rise of Rs1.251 trillion.

It also mentioned that the National Economic Council (NEC) approved the updated Dasu project plan in December 2025.

The documents also showed a big increase in funds for helping local communities affected by the projects.

Initially, 160 million rupees were set aside for local community development in the Mohmand Dam project. Now, with the updated plan, this amount has increased to 4.5 billion rupees.

Likewise, for the Dasu Dam project, the money set aside for helping the local community was increased from 7 billion to 57 billion rupees in the updated plan, says the Ministry of Water Resources.
