Government announces fuel price increase ahead of gas station strike, affecting petrol and energy costs. — Fuel prices rise as government takes action before an upcoming gas station strike.

ISLAMABAD: The government on Tuesday raised the prices of petroleum products by up to Rs7.15 per liter starting Wednesday (today). At the same time, the All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association (APPPOA) announced a nationwide strike after talks with the government to change how fuel prices are set each day failed.

Under a new pricing system announced by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) went up by Rs7.15 per liter, from Rs360.06 to Rs367.21, as said in a statement from the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division.

The price of motor spirit (MS), also called petrol, has gone up by Rs4.93 per litre, from Rs315.80 to Rs320.73. The new prices started on July 22, 2026, the statement said. Before, oil prices changed every two weeks.

But last week, the government switched to changing prices every day. On Monday, it raised the price of High Speed Diesel (HSD) by Rs5.17 per litre for Tuesday, while cutting the price of petrol by Rs0.35 per litre.

The All Pakistan Petroleum Products Owners Association (APPPOA) and the All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) have opposed starting daily changes in fuel prices. After talks with the government failed, the APPPOA said they will strike across the country for an unknown time starting Wednesday midnight.

In a video message, APPPOA leader Nauman Butt said discussions with the federal minister for petroleum did not lead to a good result. He said talks failed because of dealers’ profits and the plan to change fuel prices every day.

The group said gas stations across the whole country would stay shut from midnight on July 22. The strike will go on until the government agrees to their demands. The Petroleum Retailers Association also said it supports the strike.

Separately, the PPDA called a meeting of its leaders to decide if it would join the strike. PPDA Senior Adviser Malik Khuda Bukhsh said changing fuel prices every day is not practical or okay for dealers.
