HARARE:Temporary coach VVS Laxman praised Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his growing maturity, after the 15-year-old scored 81 runs from 49 balls, helping India win the Twenty20 series against Zimbabwe.

Sooryavanshi’s second half-century in four days led India to 192-5. Then Zimbabwe was held to 157-7, giving India a 3-0 series win on Sunday.

“Very grown-up. And that’s what I really like about Vaibhav,” said Laxman.

Sooryavanshi controlled his usual aggressive way of batting, hitting eight fours and four sixes on a slow pitch.

“With every experience and every match, he learns, judges, and improves,” said Laxman, who was in charge temporarily after Gautam Gambhir skipped the Zimbabwe tour.

“I think he reviews each practice session a lot, not just matches,” Laxman added.

Sooryavanshi became famous for playing bravely for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

Earlier this month, against England, he became the youngest player to play for India.

But his first experience in international cricket was tough. The teenager scored 42 runs in three innings as India lost 4-0 in England, after a 2-0 loss in Ireland.

Sooryavanshi recovered in Zimbabwe, helping India beat a team ranked 10 places lower.

“I’m not surprised by how this series has gone,” Laxman said before talking about Sooryavanshi again.

“He was sad not to get a hundred, but we told him it won’t be the first or last chance he’ll get.”

He has a long career ahead and the attitude and mindset to get better every day.
