Pakistan’s drug regulator, DRAP, told people to stop using two batches of medical syringes because tests found they were not good enough.
DRAP warned after the Central Drugs Lab in Karachi found the syringes failed important quality checks.
The affected products are a batch of BD 10 mL syringes (MDMR-0000035) Batch No. 5349764, and Accuject Auto-Disable Syringe 5 mL (MDMR-000507) Batch No. S502E26. They were made by Faiz Surgical and Medical Industries (Pvt.) Ltd. in Lahore.
According to DRAP, the BD syringe batch failed an absorbance test. This means there may be too many extractable substances, which could affect the product’s safety and quality during medical use.
The Accuject syringe batch also failed a test for cleanliness, raising worries about possible germs.
The regulator said that using the bad syringes could make people more likely to get sick, including serious infections in the body.
DRAP told its field teams and provincial drug control authorities to check shops right away and take the bad syringes off the market.
Manufacturers, importers, and distributors have been told to recall the products as per rules.
Doctors and health workers should check their stock for affected batches and tell DRAP’s safety center about any bad reactions or quality problems.
Pharmacies and medical stores have also been told to stop giving out the affected products right away, keep any leftover stock separate, and send it back to suppliers or makers.
