A new treatment for Hepatitis Delta gives hope to patients in Pakistan.

Islamabad: Pakistan has made big progress in getting better treatment for Hepatitis Delta. At the Pakistan-China B2B Health Conference, Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal helped move forward plans to bring a new therapy to Pakistan using Emergency Use Authorization.
This therapy was earlier labeled a breakthrough by the U.S. FDA for treating Hepatitis Delta, showing it can help with a serious disease that lacked good treatments.
For the last seven months, Federal Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal has been working closely with top liver doctor Prof. Dr. Saeed Hamid and Pakistan’s clinical research expert Syed Munawar Ali to deal with the growing problem of Hepatitis Delta in Pakistan and to speed up access to new treatment options.
Speaking about why this effort is important, Minister Mustafa Kamal stressed that Hepatitis Delta is still one of the most severe types of viral hepatitis.
He warned that if action is not taken quickly, the disease could keep spreading and put people with weak immune systems in high danger of serious liver problems.
Because the Minister kept working and following up, the head of a Chinese biotech company making the treatment came to Pakistan during the B2B Health Conference.
Talks with DRAP CEO Dr. Obaid Ullah Malik were about helping the Phase III clinical trial program in Pakistan by speeding up the regulatory process, while also working on the legal and scientific review needed for Emergency Use Authorization.
This work is being done closely with LCI Pharma, led by CEO Mr. Atif Siddiqui, to support the regulatory process and make the treatment available to Pakistani patients as soon as possible.
Health experts think Pakistan might have over 1 million suspected Hepatitis Delta patients, and many are not diagnosed.
