Actress Karisma Kapoor said she was the only one to take a role in the hit movie Dil To Pagal Hai after many other actresses said no. She called the movie one of the hardest but most important parts of her career.
While talking about her new TV show, Brown, she explained how that movie helped her become successful in acting.
Kapoor said that most actresses in our country turned down this movie. She hadn’t read the script yet and originally wanted to say no too. However, she received another call asking her to listen to the story.
She remembered being told that Madhuri Dixit would be in the film, meaning she would have to act alongside one of Bollywood’s most famous dancers.
Kapoor remembered being told, “Madhuri Dixit will be in this dance movie, and you will actually dance against her.”
The actress admitted she wasn’t sure about the role at first, but her mother encouraged her to take it.
I was undecided, but my mother encouraged me. She said, ‘You should do this movie to challenge yourself and show your talent. You have the chance to work with Yash Chopra, Madhuri, and Shah Rukh Khan. Go and prove what you can do.’
Kapoor added that this role was very different from the characters she had played before.
“This was new for me. In Indian movies, it is rare to see a character who isn’t a typical heroine but still cries over the hero. It was very unusual,” she said.
She also remembered filming a very emotional scene in Germany with Shah Rukh Khan.
Kapoor said the scene was a three-page speech filmed by a lake. Even though it started raining during the shot, she kept acting until the scene ended.
She added, ‘I had a long speech by the lake. It was very quiet, and Shah Rukh Khan was focused too.’
It started with a few raindrops. Even though it was chilling, I kept going. I was on page three and didn’t stop when it began to pour. I finished the scene.
Kapoor said the team was amazed that the scene was filmed in one continuous shot. They filmed it again just in case, but they used the first version in the final movie.
Talking about her new project, Kapoor said her character in ‘Brown’ is different from her past roles because she plays a struggling detective.
She explained that after reading the script, she felt the role was unique for an actress. She found the character’s emotional and exhausted nature to be a very interesting challenge.
Released on June 5, Brown tells the story of Rita Brown, a former police officer who lost her job and is struggling with alcohol and sadness after her partner died. She teams up with others to catch a serial killer.
