ISLAMABAD: The federal government wants to make big changes to Pakistan’s tax system through the Finance Bill 2027. These changes include creating a national center that works without face-to-face meetings, starting remote tax audits, and using tougher rules to stop tax fraud and fake bills.

Under the proposed budget for 2026-27, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will be allowed to set up this National Faceless Centre to reduce direct contact between tax officers and taxpayers.

Under the new plan, an automated system will assign tax cases to officers, and audits will be done online.

This system aims to reduce direct contact with officials and prevent officers from making unfair decisions.

All tax processes will be done online, and the names of the officers will be kept secret.

You cannot complain about their decisions based on who they are, but officials will still visit businesses and check assets in person.

At the same time, the FBR is stepping up its fight against tax fraud and fake bills. The new Finance Bill suggests high fines and tougher rules for companies that do not connect to the digital tax system.

Under these new rules, businesses that fail to link with the FBR could be fined up to Rs1 million. If they continue to ignore the rules, the fine could rise to Rs5 million. Sources also say that businesses failing to connect within the set deadline could be shut down.

The new Finance Bill suggests strict punishments for people who create fake tax invoices.

Those caught could be fined the total amount shown on the invoice, and the government may also publish their names publicly.
