ISLAMABAD: Sources said on Thursday that the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) will meet this weekend before the federal budget is announced. The committee will review many large spending and development plans worth billions of rupees.
Officials said the meeting will focus on approving large amounts of money for different areas. These decisions will likely set important financial and development goals before the new budget is announced.
One big plan on the agenda is a grant of over Rs7 billion for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) program, which will be discussed in detail. Sources also say that Rs528 million for the Pakistan Land Ports Authority is being considered.
The government is expected to approve an extra Rs150 million for the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA). Large amounts of money will also go toward security, including over Rs410 million for costs related to the Reko Diq project.
Also, 690 million rupees has been asked for to provide security for the peace talks in Islamabad.
The meeting will also discuss moving development money to Karachi and Hyderabad, and deciding how to reallocate special funds for K-P.
The meeting will discuss a Rs 1.3 billion plan to improve the Pakistan Mint and a large loan for Pakistan State Oil (PSO). Officials also expect to review a deal to upgrade an oil refinery.
Additionally, the government will likely approve extra funding for several ministries as it prepares important financial decisions before the next budget.
