North Korea criticized the United States and its allies on Saturday. It claimed they are building stronger military groups and increasing weapons. This happened after a NATO meeting earlier this week.
The North Korean government said NATO leaders wrongly called North Korea’s normal actions a threat. This was told in an official message shared by state news.
The alliance shows greater focus on competing with other blocs by spending more on weapons and working closely with military partners in the Asia-Pacific. The ministry stated this.
At a NATO meeting in Turkey on Tuesday, leaders said they made deals worth over $50 billion for buying weapons and making things. This is because European countries are still being pushed by US President Donald Trump to take on more of the alliance’s defense costs.
South Korea’s President Lee Jae Myung, who leads the country that competes with North Korea, said at the meeting that he wanted Seoul to work more with NATO allies on new technology research and making weapons systems.
North Korea said the meeting showed that NATO is a group focused on war and fighting, chasing what it calls its own one-sided political goals while hurting peace and safety in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
The North Korean government says that the West’s efforts to make it give up nuclear weapons are over for good. Instead, it thinks denuclearization should first target South Korea and Japan, who it says are trying to get nuclear weapons with US help, and also NATO members who share nuclear weapons in their alliance.
North Korea says it will protect its own safety and rights, and keep peace in the region, by using its nuclear rights responsibly.
