MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has finished all needed steps to make sure voting in the first part of elections is free, fair, and clear. This voting is set for Monday (today) across the Mirpur area.
AJK Chief Secretary Khushal Khan and AJK Election Commission Secretary Raja Muhammad Shakeel said in a joint news conference in Muzaffarabad that the voting materials have been sent to the polling places.
The main secretary and the AJK election chief told people to vote to solve their problems in a fair way. They said there would be big trouble if anyone tried to stop voting or cause trouble.
They also asked people to ignore fake news about the election on social media. The AJK voting will happen in three parts: Mirpur on Monday, Muzaffarabad on August 2, and Poonch on August 10.
Separately, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mirpur Khurram Iqbal said that a full and safe security plan was set up to keep order and give voters a secure place during voting.
He added that all security agencies worked closely together to handle any bad event during voting. ‘A three-part security plan has been made for all polling stations.’
The SSP said that polling places are grouped as very risky, risky, and safe. People and supplies are given based on the safety needs of each place.
He also said that 56 safety areas were set up across the district. Each area is watched over by an assistant police chief. A good watching and fast action system will stay working in every area.
The Senior Superintendent of Police said: ‘A separate backup plan was made for the second response team, and a third-level security plan has been put in place under the watch of area commanders.’
He confirmed that the district office and all police forces were determined to keep the voting process peaceful, clear, and fair. ‘We will make sure the Election Commission’s orders are followed strictly.’
He asked everyone to follow the election rules, work with police, and help keep peace so the elections in Mirpur Division can succeed.
Over 1.4 million people will vote in 13 areas of Mirpur. There are 2,454 polling stations and 3,701 voting booths. About 3,500 election workers will run the voting.
Voting will happen in four areas of Mirpur district, three areas of Bhimber district, and six areas of Kotli district. In these places, 1,965 voting places have been marked as risky or very risky. Voting will go from 8am to 5pm.
Special safety steps have been made to keep the election peaceful. Over 19,000 security workers have been sent to the area. Of these, 17,000 police workers are on duty, and 2,100 Army workers will be ready to help if needed.
There are 288 people running for 13 seats in this area’s Legislative Assembly. But like before, the big fight will be between the PML-N, PPP, IPP, and in some places, strong independent candidates.
