RAWALPINDI/ CHAKWAL: New information has come out regarding the death of Hania Ahmed, a young Australian-Pakistani girl killed during a shooting in Chakwal. Her injured father, Adeel Ahmed, released an audio message expressing his frustration with the police investigation.
He claimed that four CCD officers on two motorcycles chased his car and fired shots randomly, even though the robbers had not shot at them first.
Adeel Ahmed, speaking from Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi, said he lives in Perth, Australia. He and his family had just returned to Pakistan on June 10 after completing the Hajj pilgrimage.
He explained that while they were visiting relatives, two robbers approached them outside a house to steal their belongings. Ahmed claimed that as the family was giving up their valuables, shots were suddenly fired. He alleged that CCD personnel fired at their vehicle first, and then the robbers fired two shots before running away.
Adeel Ahmed said his 11-year-old son, Afnan, was shot twice, and Adeel himself was also shot twice, with one bullet stuck in his arm. His nine-year-old daughter, Hania, was shot several times and died before they could reach the hospital.
He said the shooting was so heavy that the car’s brakes stopped working, but even though he was hurt, he still managed to drive his family to the hospital.
He claimed the tragedy could have been prevented if the CCD officers had let the robbers go and chased them later.
‘The CCD targeted us instead of the criminals. If I hadn’t driven away, they would have killed us all,’ he said.
Adeel Ahmed stated that he was not seeking financial assistance but wanted a transparent and impartial investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future. He added that officials from the Australian High Commission had met him and would visit again.
He further claimed that neither the Pakistan nor Punjab government had contacted the family and said he would ask the Australian government to seek justice on their behalf.
He also alleged that Chakwal police were attempting to protect CCD personnel.
Meanwhile, police officer Sohail Zafar Chatha told reporters at the victim’s home that his department does not support illegal killings. He stated they only act against serious criminals.
He explained that these suspects are often armed and have attacked police before, but he emphasized that every citizen’s life is more important than catching two robbers.
He said that three or four robberies happened in Chakwal in just a few hours on that day, which put the CCD on high alert. He admitted that it might have been better to chase and arrest the suspects later instead. He noted that the robbers came from Sheikhupura and were killed during a CCD operation.
Calling the event a tragedy, he said the whole department supports the family. He believes the CCD’s success depends on whether the family and the public trust them. He added that Hania Ahmed’s death is a chance for the department to fix its mistakes by improving training and creating stricter rules to prevent this from happening again.
