Oil prices are expected to go down more starting August 16.

ISLAMABAD: People struggling with high prices can expect lower fuel costs in Pakistan starting August 16. This change comes after global oil prices dropped over the past 11 days, as reported by Geo News on Monday.

US crude oil prices fell by $5.71 per barrel, from $69.26 to $63.48. Brent crude also decreased by $5.72 per barrel, from $71.70 to $65.98. The government will update local fuel prices on August 16.

 

In the last two-week review, the federal government reduced petrol prices by Rs7.54 to Rs264.61 per litre for the new two-week period, while diesel prices went up by Rs1.48 to Rs285.83 per litre.

During the National Assembly’s Question Hour, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik stated that on April 16, the petroleum tax was raised by Rs8 on petrol and Rs7 on diesel, but consumer prices did not increase then.

The minister told the parliament that Rs34.87 billion was raised from the petroleum tax until June 30, and it is expected that Rs1.485 trillion will be collected in the fiscal year 2025–26.
